Using ChatGPT to Reduce Professor Workload

I’ve used ChatGPT to be more productive and creative in my accounting information system classes.
My biggest time savings is in making test banks. ChatGPT can easily create multiple-choice questions testing recall or understanding. It will write short examples, which I can quickly repurpose to measure higher-level Bloom outcomes. The AI’s output requires tweaking, but spending a few hours can result in a 20-page exam study guide.
I also have been using the software to be more creative. I’ve created poetry, concept examples, and short stories. My favorite poem was about Kneecaps the loan shark, which helped students understand the importance of cash management. My favorite short story was about a son squandering his father’s investments, which ended with students talking about each person as if there were real. While a little silly, these give more color to my course, and help students develop a more emotional connection to the material.
Overall, I think that ChatGPT and similar tools have potential to improve my teaching and better connect with students.
